Wikiquote Contest 2025 Begins on Bangla Wikiquote: Take Part and Win Prizes

Bangla Wikiquote is a platform for a rich collection of quotations in Bengali, gathering and preserving the words of notable figures both Bengali and international. To enrich it further, the Wikiquote Contest is held each year. Begun in 2024, the contest has now entered its second year, building on the previous year’s success.

What is the contest for?

• To add verified, relevant quotations from Bengali and international figures to Bangla Wikiquote.
• To encourage people of all backgrounds to take part and make Bangla Wikiquote better known.
• To bring in new editors and keep existing ones active, so the platform improves over the long term.

Highlights from 2024

• 80 participants took part
• 823 new quotation pages created
• 673 pages accepted, totalling 474,170 words
• Bangla Wikiquote passed the 1,000-page milestone
• Many new users contributed for the first time

The 2025 contest: how to take part

Bangla Wikiquote currently holds 1,458 quotation pages. This year’s contest exists to push that number higher. Taking part is straightforward:

1. Create a quotation page on any notable person or subject, excluding plays, songs, poems, novels and films. If it helps, use the list of suggested articles. Newcomers will find this tutorial useful.

2. Submit your page here. If you need help, say so on the talk page.

Rules

• Each page must carry at least three quotations and 150 words.
• Citing the source of each quotation is compulsory.
• Quotations from other languages must be translated.
• Anyone, anywhere in the world, may take part.
• You may not review your own pages.
• Reviewing follows the published review policy.

What are the prizes?

Winners are decided on the total number of words added:

• 🥇 1st prize: a gift voucher worth 6,000 BDT
• 🥈 2nd prize: 4,000 BDT
• 🥉 3rd prize: 3,000 BDT
• 4th: 2,500 BDT
• 5th: 2,000 BDT
• 6th to 10th: 500 BDT
