About Us

Bangla WikiConnect is a volunteer-run, collaborative initiative that works to grow and improve Bengali-language content across Wikipedia and its sister projects. Through contests, edit-a-thons and training programmes, we encourage high-quality, inclusive writing on Wikipedia, Wikiquote, Wikivoyage, Wikibooks and Wiktionary.

How Bangla WikiConnect works

Open contests sit at the centre of what we do. Each one runs to a published timeline, the rules live on the relevant wiki, and taking part is free and open to anyone. Entries are checked by volunteer reviewers who are themselves long-standing contributors to Wikimedia projects. Which contests are running now, and which have finished, is on our projects page.

Projects and contests

Beyond Wikipedia itself, the Bengali sister projects need good content just as badly, and that is where much of our attention goes. A quote contest on Wikiquote, an article contest on Wikivoyage, a writing contest on Wikibooks and an entry contest on Wiktionary each return in a new edition year after year. Documenting Bangladesh’s nature and heritage through freely licensed photographs is part of the work too.

The Bangla WikiConnect team

The initiative is run by volunteers — some planning and coordinating, some reviewing entries, some looking after the website and the technical tools. None of it is anybody’s full-time job; everyone gives time alongside their studies or their work. Who does what is on the members page, which introduces the core team, the reviewers and the technical team.

What we are aiming for

Our goal is not simply a larger number of articles. We want a community where new contributors have somewhere to learn, where experienced ones learn to lead, and where the range of subjects widens — so that the body of free knowledge in Bengali is not only bigger but more dependable. A contest ends, but the articles written during it remain, and that is the real result.
